Is it ok to sing a Marian hymn as an entrance hymn at Sunday mass? Also, is it ok for the first part of the Gloria (in English) (the refrain:Glory to God) to be repeated after each verse?
Specifically I am thinking of the Mass of Christ the Savior.

    1. Hi Raquiza

Thank you for writing to us.

You will notice that on certain Solemnities, the antiphons are “Marian” in theme and text. Feel free to refer to the Graduale Romanum as this resource is the official approved hymnal of the Church.

As for your second question, you are encouraged to abide by the tradition of singing the Gloria – that is, without repeating the “refrain” (i.e. Glory to God in the highest…). The Gloria is meant to be sung without antiphonal refrain or segregation of verses – in the same way we do not repeat any part of the “Our Father”, or “The Creed”.

I hope this helps in your enquiry.

      Cheers
      Kenneth Wee,

    Thanking you in anticipation.
