2-Day Workshop: Ordinaries & the Propers


The Liturgical Music Committee (LMC) is organizing a 2-day Choir Workshop and we wish to extend the invitation to all choir members in your Parish.  We would appreciate if you’re able to forward this email to all Choir Directors.

Title: Discovering New Mass Settings and Antiphons

Synopsis: Come and discover new English settings of the Mass for congregational use, as well as antiphonal singing for Entrance and Communion. This workshop will take place over two Saturday morning sessions and will mainly be practical, with some explanation of the importance and use of chant at Mass at the beginning of each. The practical components include learning the new Mass settings and antiphons, including some antiphons in harmony, learning how to interpret chant, and rehearsal techniques for singing in chant and harmony.
Session 1: The Ordinaries – Something Extraordinary

Date: 30 July 2016
Time: 9am – 12 pm
Venue:  The Church of the Holy Spirit, Room #03-07

Practical: This session will cover new English settings of the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei in chant style, appropriate for congregational use, and also how to read and interpret chant

Session 2: The Propers in their Proper Place

Date: 06 August 2016
Time:  9am – 12 pm
Venue: The Church of the Holy Spirit, Room #03-07

Practical: This session will cover antiphonal singing during the Entrance and Communion, some settings in harmony, and also rehearsal techniques for chant and harmony

Please REGISTER if you wish to attend. REGISTRATIONis necessary as there are limited seats available.

Cost per person: $20 for both sessions. Church Choristers are encouraged to sign up for both sessions.


LMC Choral Workshop: The Voice of the Liturgy

LMC Singapore will be organising a practical Choral Workshop.This workshop will focus on the various issues, problems and requirements of choral singing in the liturgy, with a strong focus on the practical aspect of singing English hymns. The sessions will draw attention to the technical details of singing, including good diction and articulation, effective warm-up and rehearsal techniques and basic harmonies. Participants will also be encouraged to place choral singing in the wider context of the Church’s liturgical tradition and understand what makes a good liturgical voice. The workshop will end with the celebration of Mass, with participants singing the hymns learnt during the workshop at the Mass.Details as follows:LMC Choral Workshop 2013

Organ Workshop: Accompanying the Chants of the New Roman Missal

Please note:
The following workshop is limited to only 40 persons due to space and resource constraints- we regret that only registered participants can be admitted.

We are inviting all church musicians and organists to attend a 2-session workshop which will cover the practical aspects of using the organ (or piano) to accompany the chants of the New Roman Missal.

The objective of this workshop is to introduce to participants the basics of effective chant accompaniment, with particular reference to the chants of the revised Roman Missal. Participants would go away having a better understanding of the techniques and playing style required to effectively accompany chants either on the pipe organ or other keyboard instruments.

Dates: Saturdays, April 21 & 28, 2012
Time: 9am – 3pm with a break for lunch

Church of Sts. Peter & Paul,
Choir Loft (within the church building), &
Room 8 (2nd floor, parish building)

We will cover:
1. The role of the accompanist in chant
2. Basics of classical organ technique (which forms the foundation for chant accompaniment)
3. The difference between playing on the electone/piano and the pipe organ
4. The unique characteristics of chant accompaniment
5. Practical ‘hands-on’ for the chants of the revised Roman Missal

Who should attend?
Church musicians (pianists, organists, instrumentalists) who would like a better understanding of effective chant accompaniment.

What to prepare?
Participants should be acquainted with the chant accompaniment scores of the Roman Missal. Look under ‘The Order of Mass’ for the hyperlinks marked ‘accompaniment’
